Winter 2026…

May and June are Rich and my birthdays, Rich baked me a cake, (delicious), he and Luca are so great at adding the little touches that hold special meaning for me ❤️❤️❤️

We had a combined celebration and went out for dinner and the movies. Luca had gone out to a board game night, we picked him and a friend up after as we all finished up around the same time. Five of them had trickled into our place during the night, sleepy bodies spread over the house the next morning😂
The jar is packed these days, all individually labelled. The one use and throw away seemed very wasteful for the regular ones❤️

During the day of our birthday celebration, Rich and I had gone to the beach, it was a perfect day for a stroll. We are having a lovely start to winter, making up for the very mediocre summer I think 🙂 The last time we had a winter like this, was when we first settled here, we are making the most of it!

We stopped and took this on the way home, looking over the Port area where we live. Taking in the beauty around us, it still takes my breath away looking at it.

Luca came down with a viral upper respiratory tract infection straight after the gastro bug that he had had while Rich was away, poor kid. He had a good couple of weeks off school recovering, it was the cough that affected him the most. It is still lingering a bit, and he has a lot on school wise, currently shooting and directing his movie for media studies. He is on school holidays again starting first week of July so hopefully with 2 weeks R&R it will be a good reset for him. He could take a lesson from Vida, who is extremely competent at the whole R&R thing 😂

She has come a long, long way from the scared little kitty we picked up from the SPCA 7 years ago. She also is comfortable to sit amongst the kids, something that would have been unheard of previously. Pica has never had that problem, the more the merrier😊

The shortest day of the year is almost upon us; it is always a thing to rejoice about in this house.
Although my new job does mean I do get to see sunlight, the longer days will give me even more. When I go for my walk in the bush with Pica after work, I will have more time to linger before it gets dark as the days lengthen out.
In the past when we have finished up a renovation on a property, we have moved on quickly to the next home and project. Anything we do now to this property is just tweaking or adding something that is nice, not necessary. This makes the first time we have been able to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labour before moving on; it is a unique but enjoyable experience for Rich and I. It also allows us to take a breath before deciding on the next adventure 🙂
With winter solace officially tomorrow along comes the rain today. The tanks are needing it; I am grateful for it but do enjoy those crisp sunny blue days, there is one of those forecast for tomorrow to celebrate the shortest day – yay☀️☀️☀️.
The kids are all off to the protest tomorrow in support of the Rainbow Community. There is currently a Bill being put before Parliament to define male and female. The Bill itself is not only scientifically inaccurate, (gender and sex are not the same), but attempts to erase transgender and intersex people altogether, it is unnecessary and discriminatory. I am so proud of the kids standing up and making their voices heard.
