Change of plans….

We had been hearing about the weather and how bad things were getting, and sure enough it hit us, and more importantly it hit where we were going on the coast, hard. Also hitting us was sickness, Tara the first to go down. She got so sick, unable to move without vomiting.

Then our accommodation on the coast messaged me and said it was unsafe to go, that things were dangerous, washed out roads, landslides, her road we would be unable to get up etc. We had been hearing the same about home in Monteverde too .

I reached out to Karla ,(our current host), and asked if we could stay another night. She readily agreed and immediately turned up with some hot herbal tea for Tara, so so sweet!

Rich and Kaylan took the boys to the hot springs again, it was wet but still safe around us, they had fun 🙂 .

The next day Tara was feeling somewhat better, but Luca and I were coming down with a cold and it was pouring.

Luca pushed on through, I however felt like death warmed up 🙁 I reached out to another couple of airbnb’s on the coast, going further afield this time and we hit the road thinking we would check on the way, that surely not everywhere was dangerous. At around the midway point, (half of us feeling somewhat dodgy, Tara bravely fighting her nausea!), we stopped for something to eat and checked messages, no luck.

I reached out to another, this time further up the coast in Playa del Coco, and we hit the road again with fingers crossed. Going home by the reports we were getting, was not a good idea, people were being told to stay inside and off the mountain!

We were in luck this time! A condo not our usual way to go, but as it turned out it was really great, ready not long after we arrived, walking distance to beach and cafes, and we we all so relieved to have a place to bed down for a couple of nights.

The boys were thrilled with the pool 🙂

The rain stopped, and the boys went to the beach briefly before dark and went swimming, then got to bed early, hoping for a better day when we woke.

Luck it seemed was on our side, the weather came right and we hit the beach!

The cafe scene was great and a short walk away, we ate at the same set every day. This is really a treat for us all, so made the most of it 🙂

Walking home from the beach after a long hot day, (the temps significantly hotter on the coast), we all hit the pool on arrival back 🙂

Later we walked into town to check out the shops and came home via the beach, so beautiful…

The condo also had a very exciting facility, a washer AND dryer, we made the most of it!!!!! Has been months since we have had our clothes washed, dried and folded within 2 hours , so decadent!!!!!! 🙂

The next morning we all realized how much sun we had gotten the day before! We swam in the pool, but hit the road before lunch as not sure what to expect road wise, and felt the kids had had too much sun.

Here is Luca asleep in the trunk on the drive home, and Leif slept by Tara and my feet in the back seat….very tired boys!

The roads home were surprisingly good but it was obvious on arrival they had had some severe weather, which Edwin confirmed when I saw him.

We got settled back home and the following day Rich took everyone up to the school to check out some walks there, then they came home and did the night walk by our house, the highlight was a tarantula and venomous green snake 🙂

Rich drove them all to the airport at 3am, and it was sad goodbye. We don’t see them nearly often enough, but feel very grateful we got to spend this time together, and have had an amazing adventure along the way 🙂
