Pura Vida, here we come…

My last post from Newfoundland!

Rich and I did a final pack and weigh yesterday. It is close, within a couple of pounds, but we have met the bag and weight requirements – whew!!!!

Above are our 5 suitcases, carry on bags and Pica’s crate, everything we own in the world.

Luca’s mates have been so kind saying farewell, he will miss them a lot, they are great kids. I know he will keep in contact as he has done with friends in Nova Scotia and Manitoba, technology can be a wonderful thing! Some are even planning a visit, how cool is that?!

Goodbyes are difficult for those who are friends, but as Robert Southey says “No distance of place or lapse of time can lessen the friendship of those who are thoroughly persuaded of each other’s worth.” I have found this to be true, having moved about my entire life.

The longest time I have ever spent in one house is 5 years and that was where Luca was born. I have a core group of friends, spread across the globe, some I have known since I was a teenager and some I met later in life. Some I don’t have contact with for months on end, or have not physically seen others for years, but none of this matters, we know we can count on each other when one of us reaches out across the miles. This is what I want for Luca, and I am seeing as we move about, that this is starting to happen with him and his close mates, I am heartened by this.

The next couple days we will finish cleaning the house, give our last food and bedding away, it will be sleeping bags and take out for a night or so, then off we go!

This is where we are headed, the forest that will surround us in our new home.

Right now I am off for a hot stone massage! Rich booked it for me, amazing husband that he is, a little pura vida before we go, to get me into the swing 🙂
